the scoop??

tomorrow is our next meeting with the adoption agency!
we are set to discuss the official-filling-out-of-the-formal-application (sounds like a big build-up for a lot of paper signing ;) but its an enormous decision to do it because that means we are in route to our homestudy and in contract (financially and emotionally) to this agency. but we have done a lot of praying through this and believe that bethany is the agency for us :)

and so, the next part (also to be discussed tomorrow) is the homestudy process... i've read a lot of books and blogs and i feel like i have a good idea of what the "homestudy" entails but still... i'm scared! ;)

any advice from those of you that have been there?? pleeeeeeease!!!

The homestudy process is not bad at all. Yes, you are opening up your life to your social worker, but worth it in the end. With us, we had a meeting with our social worker, at our house, together. Then each of us had separate meetings with her at her office. The paperwork is probably the worst part and even then it isn't too bad compared to other countries.

My advice is to take it one step at a time. It is very overwhelming to look at the whole picture and everything that needs to be done. Another idea is to use an expand-a-file and label each section (finances, autobiography, USCIS, DCFS, etc.). That really worked well for me. Don't be scared--you'll be fine! Good luck!!

We worked with Bethany - LOVED THEM! No complaints at all and would recommend them to anyone :)

I was so scared of the homestudy as well, but it turned out to not be bad at all. Mostly it is a time when your social worker gets to know your family, your history, all that good stuff. Lots of questions but really no cause for fear :) I hope your experience is as good as ours was!
